The Story of Job
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. Job 1:1
In everything Job went through he did not sin with his lips is what the Bible says. Satan is very powerful as you will see as we read about what happens to Job and his Family. How many of us could endure what Job went through and not even sin. I know most of us would have some choice things to say about what was happening to us. Job is impressive in His possessions of animals.
Job 1:1-22
1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. 2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East. Also we see that Satan was not happy with just hurting Job's Family. I am not sure I could endure what Job went through. Job's wife was not quite as close to God as you will see. It's in the last 2 scriptures below...
Job 2:1-10
1 Again there was a day when the
sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also
among them to present himself before the LORD. 2 And
the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?”
Satan answered the LORD
and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth
on it.”
3 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have
you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth,
a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he
holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him
without cause.”
4 So Satan answered the LORD
and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.
5 But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone
and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”
6 And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in
your hand, but spare his life.”
7 So Satan went
out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful boils from the
sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 8 And he
took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the
midst of the ashes.
9
Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God
and die!”
10 But he said to her,
“You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from
God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his
lips.
You will have to read Job 2-42. It is long but has some good stuff in it. I like 38-42 the best when God is talking to Job. Well in the end is what counts. Job is restored by God. Now look at His animals compared to the beginning. Also His Family...
Job 42:10-17
10 And the LORD restored Job’s losses
when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had
before. 11 Then all his brothers, all his sisters,
and all those who had been his acquaintances before, came to him and ate food
with him in his house; and they consoled him and comforted him for all the
adversity that the LORD had brought upon him. Each one gave him a piece of
silver and each a ring of gold.
12 Now the LORD
blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had
fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one
thousand female donkeys. 13 He also had seven sons
and three daughters. 14 And he called the name of
the first Jemimah, the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third
Keren-Happuch. 15 In all the land were found no
women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an
inheritance among their brothers.
16 After this
Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren
for four generations. 17 So Job died, old and
full of days.
There is nothing quite like the book of Job. It is in the Old Testament if you did not know. It shows us how to act during tribulation in our lives. Will we endure till the end for the restoration? Sometimes it takes years of hard times before we see the good light of our Lord Jesus. We also find in the Bible with God it says that:
2
Peter 3:8
But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with
the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as
one day.
So we can see God is on a different timeframe than us. Well the next lesson will be on Jonah. I hope you enjoyed the story of Job. It will take you a while to read all 42 chapters but it is a very good book.
In Christ,
